Wedding Videographers – do you hire a video man ?

So, you’re getting married, you want a few records of the big day – and not just a marriage certificate and some photos. You want you kids to look back on your wedding day and actually see what it was really like. The only way possible is by hiring a wedding video man, or wedding videographer to give him his correct professional title.

We thought long and hard about the wedding video, it’s yet another expense on an already expensive wedding day. We knew a couple of relatives would be bringing their camcorders along to the wedding, so maybe one of them could make our wedding video, right ?
No, their attempt of a wedding video would probably be a shaky hand from the back of the room, capturing the back of our heads during the wedding ceremony, then probably an hour or so of their kids eating the wedding breakfast, followed by their kids dancing at the wedding reception. Not really something to show our wedding guests or kids in years to come.

So, how about the idea of us buying a camcorder ourselves, getting a bit of “behind the scenes” at our wedding during the morning. Then bride getting ready, the bridesmaids trying out their dresses, and then asking one of our friends to be the sort of unofficial wedding video man, and stand at the front of all the wedding proceedings sticking our new camcorder in the faces of all the goings on. They could even get comments from all our wedding guests…..brilliant, money saving wedding idea – and you get to keep the camcorder after the wedding. I could tinker around with the footage on my laptop and using the latest software I could create a wonderful home made wedding DVD for us, hoorah !

But then, we thought who do we ask to be this unofficial wedding videographer of ours ? Surely one of our best mates would love the job, wouldn’t they ? “Would you like to be a guest at our wedding…?” – “Yes please”, “Would you be the video man at our wedding…?” – “Er…..must I be?”
Yes, it pretty much ruins the day of the wedding guest that you ask to be your unofficial wedding video man doesn’t it. Shame, it was such a great idea until the thoughts of poor closest friend being lumbered with the pressure of coming up with a classic wedding video for you to keep for the rest of your life.
That “lucky” chosen person would see the whole of his mate’s wedding through the lens of a camcorder, trying to capture everything that happens for the wedding video and not enjoy a moment themselves.

That leaves us with a pricey, but professional wedding videographer video man to create a perfect wedding DVD for us to treasure for the rest of our lives.
A good video man will just blend in with the wedding guests, you won’t even know he’s there. His video equipment will be 10 times better then your £200 Sony camcorder. His wedding video editing software will be much better then the stuff you got free with your laptop.
So, if you want a professional long lasting, beautiful reminder of your wedding day – the answer in the end is simple. Hire a quality wedding videographer and sit back and watch a great wedding DVD with your family and friends for years to come.
The wedding day lasts just one day, make the memories last a lifetime, splash a little more cash and relax in confidence that your wedding video will be a fantastic reminder of your lovely wedding day.
